I personally feel that the indie scene is set to replace traditional AA (not AAA) - since they can operate with low overheads, more attractive RRPs and more latitude to experiment with new concepts. We've seen plenty of companies embrace the 'small team, low overheads' way of working as a direct result (not limited to Double Fine etc), and as we get less and less willing to part with £40 for a new game - and mobile platforms continue to rise - there's nowhere to go but up...
It just needs to take a break for a while after Lightning Returns, IMO. Square could sit back and think of a story that deserves being told through a game - working on some new IPs too - before coming back refreshed. At the moment, they're trying to force out stories and characters for the sake of making a Final Fantasy game, and it's hurting the brand.
You're right there - it's also too early to call the Vita. That said, I can't help but feel that Sony should have learned from the 3DS' first year by ensuring that software support and marketing remained constant.
Still playing my Vita a lot for FFVII-IX, but my 3DS takes up much more of my free time.
Couldn't agree more pangitkqb. Sometimes I enjoy my consoles for convenience and exclusives, whereas I'm often found on something like Planetside 2 or indie games like Vessel or Defender's Quest. It's literally the best of both worlds.
I enjoyed it right up until we
stopped playing as Haytham.
After that, it became a padded mess. So many good ideas, but so much busywork and emptyness.
I'd prefer a new version of the Gamepad with a capacitive touchscreen that supports multi-touch. Personally I feel that the Gamepad gives the Wii U scope to deliver truly revolutionary games, but they'll need to make the most of their second most important innovation.
The first, of course, being MiiVerse - which is probably the most forward-thinking console innovation I've seen in years.
Yeah, just had to link Steam & PSN accounts I think.
@Dlacy13g (reply fail, sorry!): Agreed - and it's even more annoying since gold members have already paid up-front and the extra cash should make it easier to sort out the servers on their end. Massively generalising I know, but I'd rather see my Gold subs spent on cool new initiatives like this rather than poxy 30 day timed exclusives (frankly I'm getting much more out of my free PS+ games atm and might not bother renewing my Gold come April).
Once again, it'...
Agreed, such a move would massively benefit us gamers. Problem is that shareholders are the priority...
@corrus:... whoops, you forgot to read the article. The full title is "The Future Has Arrived... But It's Not Ready Yet."
It has the potential to be IMO, hope Nintendo and third party devs really keep pushing it as a core feature.
I don't really enjoy CoD, but I think you might be 'excusing the irrefutable fact' that Blops 2 does things very differently, and is from a totally different developer from Modern Warfare. Actually, the branching storyline is ace and completely new, as is the futuristic setting (that sadly gets under-used IMO).
Black Ops II's campaign is even more ambitious - the branching replayable storylines are really impressive.
Sigh, was excited until I realised it was Golden4Games. This site is one of the least legit in the business - seriously, half of that review literally makes no sense, and it's not all even in the same language (same as the Resi and MoH Warfighter reviews, which all came out as 'first' reviews).
Think I might hold off for some more reviews.
I actually enjoyed Resi 6 as a cooperative shooter, but I hope that it does mark the end of the current story arc. Resi could use a reboot IMO, or perhaps a new horror centric reimagining called "Biohazard" (as it's called in Japan).
That said, I really liked Jake and Sherry's campaign, or at least their relationship. Since Capcom want to gun for more regular releases with smaller dev teams, what about a PSN/XBLA episodic series?
Personally I think it's a great idea. All of the Assassin's Creed games have messed with history, and this could allow Ubisoft to trot out some incredibly creative ideas.
Someone hasn't played System Shock 2...
That's the power of review embargos, games take over the internet for 24 hours...
Whoops, they launched it too early! Supposed to be premièring tonight, think they've yanked it for now.
I bought a Vita at launch, and really enjoy its PSOne classics (and LBP, natch), but I'm not sure that those eight games are going to bother some of the massive 3DS games coming out this year. Fire Emblem, MH3U/4, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion 2, Pokemon X/Y, Etrian Odyssey 6 etc. More to the point, I'm a bit worried that we barely know anything about KZ Mercenary and the BioShock game yet.
I'm not ragging on the Vita and I want it to do well, but I think t...
